Easter Island and Tapati Festival set 2

Begin the climb from our campsite to the crater of Ranu Kau where Orongo (the birdman) village is located. "Sam" adopted us for the trek.

He got really tired out halfway up. So did we.

We reach the summit and the crater.

Protected plantlife grows in the shelter of the crater.

Further round the crater is Orongo Village. The view here is down to the little islands where seabirds nest and where champions from each tribe would have to swim to to retrieve the first eggs each year. To the left there is a petroglyph on the rock, hard to see.
